Who's Who:

As was the case in 1995 and 2000, this year's International Vintage Sailplane Meets will be hosted by three not-for-profit organizations: the National Soaring Museum (NSM) the Harris Hill Soaring Corporation (HHSC) and the Vintage Sailplane Association (VSA). All three organizations and their members share in the work it takes to put on this event and we'd like to introduce you to some of us. You will meet all of us, and many others who are helping to make this a great IVSM, in August!

IVSM 2005 Committee:

Karin Schlösser, IVSM 2005 Committee Chair, HHSC member, NSM trustee
Robert Gaines, President NSM, member VSA
David Schuur, President VSA
Peter W. Smith, Director NSM, HHSC board member
Jeff Byard, VSA member, NSM trustee, past president NSM
Jan Scott, VSA member, past president NSM
Mark Doyle, IVSM 2005 Operational Manager HHSC

Some of the many people helping us are:
Julie Munson, Mary Flasphaler, Norm Smith, Albert Uster, Karen McMaster, Rebecca Murphy, Jim Stuart, Harris Hill Juniors Organization, Janell Sullivan

Registration:

All participants & pilots will be asked to register upon arrival at the registration desks in the National Soaring Museum. Registration times: Friday 8/19 from 1 - 5 pm, Saturday 10 am - 3 pm, Sunday 11 am - 1 pm. (times subject to change)

At time of registration, you will be asked to:

IVSM 2005 Yearbook:

We are putting together an IVSM 2005 Yearbook with photographs of all gliders and pilots attending this year's IVSM. In preparation, we ask you to email us a picture of the glider you plan on bringing and a short description of its history. In addition, we ask every pilot who plans to fly during IVSM 2005 to submit a photograph of yourself with some personal data such as: years you have been flying gliders, where you learned/started to fly, what type of trainer did you learn to fly in, soaring club membership, types of gliders flown & most memorable flight.

We ask those of you who have registered with team pilots to contact your team pilots and ask them to also submit a picture and personal data.

Please fill out this form and send a photograph of each pilot and of your sailplane as soon as possible to julie@soaringmuseum.org, by fax to (607) 732-6745, or by mail to National Soaring Museum, attn: Julie, 51 Soaring Hill Drive, Elmira, NY 14903.

Check rides:

HHSC check ride rules apply: a pilot who has not flown from Harris Hill or has not done so within the last three years, is required to take a dual flight with an HHSC instructor. Arrangements will be made for instructors to be available to give check rides prior to the start of the events on Thursday 8/18 and Friday 8/19 as well as on Saturday 8/20 and Sunday 8/21. After the flight, a marker will be affixed to your badge to show that you have had your check ride. No pilots will be allowed to fly from Harris Hill unless a properly marked badge is displayed. We encourage everyone to get their check ride done as early as possible. First come, first served basis. Tickets can be purchased at the HHSC flight office for $40. (subject to change due to fuel price increases).

Mandatory Pilots Meeting:

All non-HHSC pilots who plan on flying either a vintage sailplane or a HHSC sailplane during the IVSM 2005 are required to attend the mandatory pilots meeting on Sunday morning, 8/21 at 9.30 am. Crews and non-flying participants are invited and encouraged to attend.

Daily Briefing:

Pilots are required to attend the daily Briefings at 10 am on each day they wish to fly.

HHSC Guest Membership:

Pilots who are not bringing a glider to IVSM 2005 and would like to fly HHSC club ships can request a guest membership. We refer to the HHSC website for more information about guest memberships.

Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License:

Effective July 23, 2002, new rules apply for a US pilot certificate on the basis of a foreign license under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 61. For more information and the application form, we refer you to www.faa.gov.

In the search bar, highlight Foreign Pilots: U.S Certification

The application form should be faxed to:

Airmen Certification Branch
AFS-760
P.O. Box 25082
Oklahoma, OK 73125-0082
Fax: 405-954-4105

It may take as much as 60 days to receive a response so put your request in as soon as possible. The SSA can act as liaison and will assist if a copy of your application form is faxed (1-505-392-8154) or emailed to them at info@ssa.org. Please contact us at ivsm2005@soaringmuseum.org if you need a copy of the application form or if we can help in any other way.

Tows & Tow Fees:

HHSC provides Schweizer and Tost ring tow adapters. If your glider needs a special tow adapter, make sure to bring it! Pilots are responsible for writing the desired tow speed on the tow ticket that will be handed to the tow-pilot.

Tow fees are as follows: (subject to change due to fuel price increases)
$35 for 2000 ft tow
$10 for each additional 1000ft
Tow tickets can be purchased at HHSC flight center during the event and unused tickets will be refunded.

Glider Storage & Tie Downs:

As was the custom during prior IVSM's on Harris Hill, all gliders will be assigned tie-down spots on a marked-off area in the grass along the runway. Owners should bring their own tie-down equipment. After assembly, trailers are to be moved to an area to be designated.

Indoor hangar storage is very limited and although HHSC will make every effort to make hangar space available, we anticipate that there will only be room for a few glisers. Hangar space will be assigned on the bases of available space, fragility of the glider, historic importance & ease of assembly/disassembly. This determination will be made by the Hangar Space Committee, comprised of Mark Doyle (HHSC IVSM 05 Operations Manager) and Bob Gaines (IVSM 05 Committee).

Camping:

Camping will be available for registered IVSM pilots and crew at the Chemung County Youth Camp from August 18-28, 2005. RVs and camping trailers may also use the campground but please note that all camp sites are dry-camping only (no electric or water hookup or septic facilities). Campers may park their cars at their campsite. You will be assigned a designated location when you register so please register before you set up camp. Campers may use the toilet facilities of the youth camp. Arrangements will be made for use of the swimming pool showers at a small charge.

The campground must be vacated by August 28.

Alternate campsites with full RV hookups available:
